Twinsie Tuesday

Hello Luvlies!  Welcome to Twinsie Tuesday.  The lovely Amanda from Amandalandish and Nory from Fierce Makeup and Nails came up with the cutest idea to choose a certain theme each week, and the participants do a swatch based on that theme.  We all keep chosen polish a secret from each other, and it's revealed when we check each other's blogs on Tuesday mornings!

For our first week, we were supposed to choose an international polish to swap.  As I'm still new to this, I've got around 100 polishes, and I had a hard time finding a fun international one!  So I have Rimmel London's Vintage.  This polish was a gift a few years ago from my sister in law, and I lurrrve it!  It's a unique dusty rose with plenty'o shimmer!

Can't wait to see what everyone has chosen as their International polish.  Click on the blog links below to see who has played along.  They are some fabulous ladies!

Splatter

I've seen some fun splatter mani's out there and wanted to give it a go.  Not sure why I chose these colors, cuz I didn't even like it as I was doing it!  Oh well, next time I'll use my usual soft colors.  The blue is Sally Hansen Blue Me Away, and the orange is H&M Summer Coral.

I used coffee stir sticks to do the splatter, but I felt like lots of blobs were coming out.  Does anyone have any tips for me?

Amandalandish Guest Post

Sweet Amanda from Amandalandish was kind enough to do a guest post for us all today!  I am a huge fan of Amanda, she is so sweet and I always look forward to her posts on her blog.  Enjoy lovelies...

Hello all you lovely Grape Fizzers!

I'm Amanda from Amandalandish and I was so thrilled to be asked by the sweet Anne to guest post today.  Her swatches are truly immaculate and I find that her taste is pretty similar to mine so in attempts to impress, I wanted to come up with something a bit different for this post.

It occurred to me that two of my major lemmings from 2011 were both purple flakies that were heavily documented in the blogosphere.  However, now that I happily have both in my possession, I thought I'd do a bit of a comparison post (my first, in fact!)

The first swatch is Zoya Neeka, one of the stars of the Smoke and Mirrors Collection.  A deep purple cream, you can see there is a dusty quality to this polish that really makes Neeka beautifully unique.

Zoya Neeka

My second swatch is one of those polishes that I picked up a bazillion times in the store and always put down, only to realize that when I really, really, really wanted it, it was nowhere to be found.  I was lucky enough to buy Revlon Royal Cloak, the LE purple bombshell from this fall's Masquerade Collection, from a blog sale for super cheap.  Like Neeka, this is a creamy deep purple, also possessing that great dustiness I adore.

Revlon Royal Cloak
In my heavily biased opinion, both are equally gorgeous.  But is there a reason to own both?  Well, let me show you these beauties a bit closer:

Zoya Neeka
Revlon Royal Cloak
As you can see, Neeka is a much richer, darker purple filled with gold glass flecks.  Royal Cloak has a bluer base thus somewhat lighter, has silvery white glass flecks.  Two halves of a purple whole, I think these compliment each other wonderfully.

However, as someone who pined for these for months and now (clearly) owns both, I have to say in full disclosure they're fairly similar when worn.  In the end it really depends on your fleck preference (gold or silver), color saturation level, and your wallet.  Both retail for about $7 USD, although Royal Cloak is now discontinued.

What do you ladies think?  Is it worth it to own both or was I chasing purple dreams trying to own both?

My thanks to Anne for allowing me the opportunity to try out a new type of post for her readers.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  And to everyone else: please don't be shy!  I hope to see you girlies over at Amandalandish from time to time :)

Thank you again Amanda, now I'm going to have to go buy Zoya Neeka!  If you haven't already, go check out Amanda's blog, I know you will love it!

A green Shine of the Times

Happy Saturday!  We woke up to snow here again in BC this morning.  As long as we don't get snowed in for a whole week, I don't mind it!

I can't get enough of Essie Shine of the Times.  So here it is layered over Avon's Jade.  I found photographing the flakies in indirect light helped them show up better.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

my first freehand art and a winner

First of all, thank you to everyone who entered my 75 follower giveaway!  I loved reading all your comments and am excited to check out your blogs.  Ok, so the winner is Nailed It.  I emailed her, if there's no reply within 48 hours, I'll pick a new winner. Congrats to her!

So this mani is my first try at some free hand nail art.  My daughter went for her first pedicure (she's 8) and they did the coolest design on her toe, so I tried to re-create it.  Man, it's hard to do!  So don't look too close!  Oh and the main color is Revlon Coral Me Wild, and I used a little SH Strobe Light glitter on the leaves.

Seriously, stop looking so close!

I'm going to keep practising nail art cuz it was actually pretty fun to do!

This is Sally Hansen HD Definition (that makes me laugh a bit) in DVD.  It's a purple/blue duochrome, with loads and loads of little glass flakes.  Super pretty.  I'm going to try layering next time.  This is 4 coats!

These are under a lamp light.

This one is out in the sunshine.

There's still a few more days to enter my giveaway.  Winner will be announced on Friday :)

Cute Blog Award, and a blue glitter gradient

We are on day 3 of no school snow days due to extreme temps in BC this week!  Feeling a little house bound with the 2 girlies, but we've got plenty of crafts and nail polish to keep us going!

I finally got around to swatching my Revlon Midnight Affair.  Love the pretty blue shimmer in it.  And this is just one coat.  More pics below of it on it's own.

I sponged the tips with NYX Girls Turks and Caicos, love the circular glitter in this.

Midnight Affair on it's own.

The lovely Amandalandish gave me the Cute Blog Award!  Thank you girlie!
And how cute it the award?!

So with this award I'm supposed to tell something that I've never told on this blog...

I like nail polish.  Just kidding....

Essie As Gold as it Gets

As Gold as it Gets is the other polish I bought the other day from the Luxeffects collection.  I wanted the 2 flakies the most.

I layered this over OPI Over the Taupe, which was a prezzie I got at Christmas.

Essie Shine of the Times

I found it, I found it, I found it!  I am waaaay excited about this polish!

This is Essie Shine of the Times in all its flaky glory : )

I layered it over Revlon Lilac Pastelle.

Here is a close up where you can see the red turn to yellow and then green.

And this is the display at Superstore.  And yes, this time I did squeal!  I only grabbed 2 of these so far.  Can you guess what the other one was?

Revlon Popular or is it Starry Pink?

I have wanted Revlon Popular (I thought it was called Starry Pink, but the top of my bottle says Popular, does anyone know if they changed it or is it a mistake?) for a while now.  It doesn't disappoint!  I feel like it's prettier in real life though.  The photos show the silver glitter quite dark in some places, and it's just not like that in real life.  It looks soft and pretty!

Do any of you own Popular?  And do you love it as much as me?
I've been given a few awards lately and I'm super honored!  A post about that coming up.
